Compliance requirements in Europe are entering a new phase. The EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is transforming how operators, contractors, and suppliers must report on sustainability, transparency, and value-chain accountability. The first wave of companies began applying the rules in 2024, with reporting due in 2025, and further phases will follow.
To ease the rollout, the EU has introduced a “stop-the-clock” directive, delaying the reporting start date for many companies by two years. At the same time, an omnibus proposal is under discussion, aiming to simplify requirements and adjust thresholds to reduce the burden on smaller firms.
What to expect: Larger operators and contractors are already reporting, while suppliers — especially SMEs — should prepare for stricter data requests from their customers. The competitive edge will lie in being compliant, transparent, and ready ahead of the curve.
